Whitchurch Pony Club has been an active member of the
Canadian Pony Club for over 25 years, with members regularly tested and showing in local rallies and events.
The Canadian Pony Club is the leading junior equestrian organization with 3000 members in 180 Branches from coast to coast. Internationally the Pony Club is represented throughout 30 countries with over 110,000 members!
It is not necessary for a child to own a horse or pony, and at Whitchurch horses are available to students for shows and testing. Levels meet international standards in dressage, eventing, show jumping, mounted games, tetrathlon, quiz, vaulting, foxhunting, and polocrosse.
During "unmounted" meetings members learn about feeding, shoeing, veterinary care, and other areas of horse management. Under adult supervision, the more experienced Pony Club members instruct and assist younger members.
Rally / Eventing
The popularity of Rally has grown
tremendously since it was first introduced. It can easily be described
as "combining the elegance of Dressage, the precision of Show Jumping and
the challenge of Cross Country with the practical knowledge of Stable Management."
Rally encourages both riding skills and practical horse care and stable
management.
Dressage
Dressage means conditioning of
the horse's mind, timing his responses, giving the impression that horse
and rider are a pair working as one. It is the foundation from which all
of the riding disciplines within Pony Club evolve. At the lower levels
of Pony Club, Dressage relates to basic flat work.
Tetrathlon
Tetrathlon encourages, promotes
and develops a Pony Clubber's interest in horses and horsemanship by combining
riding with other athletic activities. It involves four disciplines - riding,
running, swimming and shooting. Tetrathlon teams are comprised of novice,
junior and senior riders.
Show Jumping
Show Jumping tests a rider's
ability to combine speed with accuracy over a stadium course composed of
knockdown jumps.
Mounted Games (Prince
Philip Games)
Mounted Games encourage young
riders to train their ponies to be obedient and themselves to become active
and practical horsemen who compete with a sense of enthusiasm and team
spirit. The games are a series of challenging relay-type events that test
a rider's speed, balance and coordination. These competitions are generally
open to Pony Clubbers 15 years of age and under, though some organizations
offer a Masters Division for members over 16.
